Race To The Portal (December 2025-Present)
Gameplay Videos

Race To The Portal is a racing game that I've been developing in Unreal Engine.

My goal as a game designer is to deliver the excitement of a racing game by creating challenging race tracks to test player skill.

When ideating the levels, I wanted to make the scale sufficient for 5 minutes of game time, which is the time limit of the level. While doing so, I chose the environment to be the mountains because they can have their share of hazardous elements that makes racing interesting. I wanted to have an end goal in mind that gives the player motivation to concentrate on their racing skills. I chose to use a portal as a means to move between levels.

When designing the levels, I used Unreal Engine's landscape tool to layout the race tracks, which includes turns, hill climbs or drops, and ramps. I've also included hazards such as holes in the ground to highlight the importance of being careful in racing.

Playtesting the tracks allows me to improve the level. It helps me improve how the car responds to steering and how feasible the levels can be.

I continuously implement new ideas to keep updating the game to give the audience the type of racing game that may excite them.

Level Design

I made the start of each level downhill to build excitement for the player when starting to race the level.

Adding turns in multiple directions makes the track unpredictable to test the player's reaction time when driving. Also, adding holes in the ground makes the player careful when racing.

I wanted to make the environment visually appealing by adding rock formations to add more into the race track.

Game Mechanics

Having the "death zone" is a hazard in the level that makes you restart the track.

The portal is the end goal that racers want to reach. The sound effect signals to the player that they've completed the track.
